Special notes before getting started

The Novice-

No one is born knowing how to sew, but with time, practice,
patience, determination, and someone breaking down steps for
you, it is definitely possible to become a very
skilled sewer. If you can sew a straight, curved or zig-zag
stitch and know how to operate a sewing machine, you will
be able to create all the projects taught in this Guide by following
our easy to follow directions. If you have questions after
studying a step, and not sure how to proceed, we sincerely
hope you e-mail us at contactus@breakitdowndesign.com.

The Seasoned Sewer-

As you know, it is our desire in our guides to reach both the
novice and seasoned sewer at the same time. For this reason,
you may find what may be a simple step to you; one that is
broken down and explained in detail. I apologize if our instructions
seem redundant to you.

We don’t think you’ll have any problem making anything in this
guide, however, if you do have questions, suggestions or
comments, we would love to hear from you. Feel free to e-mail
us at contactus@breakitdowndesign.com.

Thanks again for your purchase!

Making the most of the layout

Sections, Steps and Topics

Sections can be recognized because they are divided with blue squiggly lines like this:

Sections Hold Either a Topic or Step(s)

Sections holding topics: A topic section is used to group
together a particular topic. For example (on this page), the
squiggly lines are used to divide the different topics under
the subject, "Introduction". Topics include: "Special notes
to You before getting started", "Making the most of the layout", and "Designing tips".

Sections holding steps:  A section may hold anywhere
between one and several steps as seen below (small scale).

Preparing to make flower

Iron the fabric the flower is going to be made of.

Cut out fabric desired for flower with your pattern.

If doing a serged rolled hem, finish petals edges by serging one of the long sides.  Pull fabric taut while doing this.

Important

It is recommended that you read through the entire section (between the squiggly lines) before starting that step.  Many times we have close up photos underneath an initial step photo.  These additional photos may help you understand a step more quickly.

Designing tip

As with any good design, there has to be balance: one that is not too busy, goes in too many directions, is boring or looks like every other out there.  I'm all for funky craziness, but in good designing, it has to say something that just makes sense.
